1. What the service provides
Free Document Signer lets you add a visible electronic signature, initials, text, and dates to a PDF in your browser and download a modified copy. It is a solo-signer tool. It does not verify anyone’s identity, witness a signature, notarise a document, issue a qualified or advanced electronic signature, add a cryptographic certificate, or provide a certified audit trail. PDF metadata is not independent proof of who signed or when.
2. Check whether this tool is suitable
A visible electronic signature may be suitable for everyday documents, but legal effectiveness depends on the transaction, intention, applicable law, execution formalities, and recipient’s requirements. We do not guarantee acceptance or enforceability. Confirm the recipient accepts this signing method before using it.
Do not rely on this tool alone for wills, powers of attorney, deeds, notarised or witnessed documents, land transactions, court documents, regulated submissions, or anything requiring a particular signing system. Requirements differ across England and Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, the EU, the US, and elsewhere. Seek appropriate professional advice for your circumstances.
For context, see the Law Commission’s electronic execution guidance for England and Wales, section 7 of the Electronic Communications Act 2000, and the US ESIGN Act, including its exceptions. These references are not a certification that this tool satisfies every requirement.
3. Your responsibilities
Only sign as yourself or with valid authority to act for someone else. Do not forge signatures, misrepresent authority, infringe others’ rights, or use the service unlawfully. Review the entire document and each field before signing. You confirm your intention and authority before downloading. Keep the signed file and any evidence or communications needed for your transaction.
Retain your original PDF. Signing and downloading do not store your documents on our servers. Optional email delivery transmits the completed copy through our server and email provider to your verified email, only with your consent. Email is not guaranteed delivery or a certified audit trail. We do not provide backup, recovery, delivery to another party, or proof of receipt. We do not inspect a PDF for malware, legal errors, existing hidden information, or suitability. The output adds content; it does not redact or sanitise the original.
4. Free allowance and paid credits
Your first seven document exports are free once per verified email. One credit is used for each successfully prepared non-sample export request. Multiple signatures or pages in the same export cost one credit. Retrying the same export request is not charged twice. The completed-download screen lets you download the same generated copy again without another credit. A new edited export uses another credit. Sample-document exports do not use credits.
Packs are one-time purchases in US dollars: $1 for 5 credits, $3 for 20, or $5 for 50. There is no recurring subscription. Credits do not expire and have no cash redemption value. Your bank may charge currency-conversion fees. Applicable mandatory taxes must be included or disclosed at checkout; the checkout total is shown before you pay. You must be legally able to enter into the purchase contract.
An account with a verified email is required before signing. Seven free credits are granted to the account once per verified email. Signing in again or clearing cookies does not renew them. Paid credits attach to the same account. Use an email you control and keep access to it secure. Sign in with your email and password. If you forget it or previously used email codes, use the email-code option and set a password in your account.
5. Payment problems, refunds, and consumer rights
If a payment succeeds but credits do not arrive, keep your Stripe receipt and contact the operator. Do not send your PDF or verification code. If a technical failure prevents use of an export, contact us so we can investigate the credit charge. Browser download restrictions may require you to save the prepared file manually.
For unused packs, you may request cancellation and a refund within 14 days of purchase. If you use part of a pack, we will assess an appropriate refund for unused credits and any rights that apply to the service. Nothing in these terms excludes a statutory cooling-off right, a remedy for a defective service, or another mandatory consumer protection. Refunds are handled by the operator through Stripe; the website does not automatically calculate them.
6. Availability and limitations
We aim to provide a reliable service but cannot promise uninterrupted availability or compatibility with every PDF and browser. Files above 50 MB or 200 pages, encrypted PDFs, detected digital-signature fields, and dynamic XFA forms are not supported. A PDF containing a detected certificate signature or signature field is rejected to avoid silently invalidating it. Detection is not an assurance that every signature mechanism or PDF restriction can be recognised.
We use reasonable care and skill. To the extent permitted by applicable law, we are not responsible for losses caused by your device, your failure to retain or review files, or use outside the service’s described capabilities. We do not exclude liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. Your statutory rights remain unaffected.
7. Privacy and changes
Our privacy policy explains the limited credit and payment data we handle. Changes to these terms will be dated and published here. We will not retrospectively remove accrued consumer rights by updating this page. If the paid service closes, contact the operator about unused credits and applicable remedies.
8. Contact and disputes
Raise questions or complaints with the operator first. No provision requires a consumer to give up mandatory protections or access to courts and remedies available under the law that applies to them.
